Islam is a religion practiced by Muslims. Just as Christians are those who follow Christianity, Muslims are those who adhere to Islam. The terms Arab and Muslim are frequently used synonymously; however, this is incorrect. Arabs are a race, whereas Islam is a religion. Both the majority of Muslims and Arabs do not practice Islam. For instance, Judaism is named after the Jude tribe, Christianity is named after Jesus Christ, and Buddhism is named after Buddha. Islam is not named after Muhammad because it existed before him. Moses, Abraham, Noah, and other earlier prophets urged submission to God (Islam). As a result, the message of Islam was not first spread by the Prophet Muhammad; peace be upon him. The cycle began with Adam and continues now. As time went on, God would continue to send Prophets and Messengers to reiterate His message and encourage people to worship only Him. Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the last of these Prophets.

What principles underlie Islam?
​
Muslims believe that God created the universe. The Arabic word for God is Allah. Muslims sometimes prefer to refer to Allah as Allah rather than as God because, grammatically speaking, he lacks gender and cannot be made multiple. Goddess or gods is the plural form of the word "God" in English. According to the central tenet of the Qur'an, there is only one God. He has no partner, children, or household help.

Muslims share this view. Each angel serves God, and there are many of them. Unlike humans, angels are bound to obey God's commands and lack the freedom of choice. Distinct angels are given different jobs. For instance, Gabriel was in charge of delivering God's message to Prophets and Messengers on earth. Michael (Mikael), an angel, was responsible for bringing rain. Angels also assist Christians in need.

Muslims revere all Prophets and Messengers. A Muslim must believe in all of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Joseph, Jesus, and Muhammad; peace be upon them all. They all arrived with the same message: there is only one God, and you should not compare him to any other entities.

The entire body of prior literature that God revealed to His prophets and messengers is also accepted by Muslims.
Moses received the Torah, Abraham received the scrolls, David received the Psalms, and Jesus received the Injeel. Except for the Qur'an, no other older text has been completely preserved in its original form. Over time, many of these texts were misplaced or corrupted. God's final communication to humanity was the Qur'an, passed down as the "ultimate testament."

Muslims believe in the afterlife. God will hold individuals accountable for their actions on the day of judgment while still on earth. Good deed-doers will ascend to heaven, while sinners will get forgiveness or punishment in hell. Everyone will be held liable for their actions in this world.

Finally, Muslims view God's unchangeable command and will as being final.

God is aware of all upcoming events. He does not force us to do anything; human beings are free to make our own decisions. But certain things are out of our control because God ordained them. These include the place and time of our birth, the moment of our death, and everything else that happens unexpectedly. Muslims acknowledge that God's mandate will apply to these things.
​
A Muslim is someone who adheres to these six principles. Even if a person does not always follow Islam perfectly or commits errors, as long as they have these beliefs, they are still regarded as Muslims. Or, to put it another way, these are the requirements for being a Muslim.
